English for Everyday
Students learn basic conversation. This course is for beginning students with zero English knowledge or students who want to sample classes before committing to full courses. The course meets for only 4 weeks.
Introduction to English
Students develop basic vocabulary, sentence structure, and learn basic grammar patterns. This course is a prerequisite to all English classes except placement by testing.
English Conversation Classes
English Conversation I
Students learn basic conversation strategies based on familiar everyday activities.
English Conversation 2
Students learn high beginning conversation strategies based on everyday activities and improve listening skills as they learn the American culture and language necessary to live in an English-speaking country.
English Conversation 3
Students will increase their fluency in spoken English and develop the ability to present in English by focusing on social issues from perspectives around the world.
English Conversation 4
Students will further develop their speaking fluency and listening comprehension while learning note-taking skills. Discussion of American films will improve listening comprehension skills, critical thinking skills, and oral fluency.
Advanced Oral Communication
Students work on improving pronunciation, practicing conversation strategies, and delivering formal oral presentations. The course emphasizes the development of fluency in spoken English.
English Reading and Vocabulary Classes
English Reading & Vocabulary I
Students develop basic vocabulary and reading comprehension of very short authentic works.
English Reading & Vocabulary 2
Students develop high beginning vocabulary and reading of short and medium-length authentic works.
English Reading & Vocabulary 3
Students develop intermediate vocabulary and read long authentic works.
English Reading & Vocabulary 4
Students develop high-level vocabulary and read authentic essays and works of fiction.
Advanced Reading and Vocabulary
Students further work with high-level vocabulary and reading strategies required to comprehend academic works and literature in various fields of study.
English Writing and Grammar Classes
English Writing & Grammar 1
Students learn basic grammar patterns and sentence structure. The focus is on well-constructed sentences and sentence-level grammatical accuracy.
English Writing & Grammar 2
Students learn how to write clear and well-developed paragraphs through the process of planning, drafting, revising, editing, and peer-reviewing. Grammatical structures relevant to the process of writing are practiced.
English Writing & Grammar 3
Students learn how to write multi-paragraphs and 3-paragraph essays and review the process of planning, drafting, revising editing, and peer-reviewing. Grammatical structures relevant to the process of writing are practiced.
English Writing & Grammar 4
Students learn how to write 5-paragraph essays, review the process of writing, and grammatical structures relevant to the process of writing.
Advanced Writing and Composition
Students perfect the art of writing essays from the perspective of different future careers and review advanced grammatical structures relevant to the process of writing.
